Former patron - Harrison Oxley

Harrison Oxley was patron of West Suffolk Young Musician until his death in April 2009.

Harrison Oxley was known to friends and family as Fred. He was taught the organ as a Foundation Scholar of King Edward's School, Birmingham, by Willis Grant, the Director of Music whose assistant he later became at Birmingham Cathedral, having won prizes in the national FRCO examination. He went on to become organ scholar to Thomas Armstrong at Christ Church College and Cathedral, Oxford, after which he became the youngest cathedral organist in the country at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, where he was also appointed conductor of the St Edmundsbury Bach Choir and Orchestra. During these years he was busy as an Associate board examiner  and carried out several organ recital tours in the USA and Canada. He was very involved too, as an adjudicator in competitive festivals all over England.
