West Suffolk Young Musician AGM, 4th October 2011

The Annual General Meeting of Members of WSYM will be held at 7:30 on Tuesday, 4th October 2011. This year, we are asking Members to let us know in advance their intention to attend the AGM, so that we can arrange a suitable venue for what will be a short, formal meeting. Details of the various ways to let us know are on the Contact page. Anyone who would like to become a Member may send us a completed application form as soon as possible. Existing members who have not yet done so can renew their membership.

Competition success

Once again 2011 was a very successful year for the Competition. A healthy number of entrants led to some keenly fought Heats in February and a very exciting Finalists’ Concert in July. This was made particularly special this year by the presence of our Patron, Dominic Seldis, who kindly agreed not only to present the prizes, but also to entertain the audience with a solo showpiece entitled Failing! West Suffolk Young Musician 2011 is Harry Greene (saxophonist) – also the winner at Level 2 - and singer Florence Taylor was declared the winner at Level 3. Congratulations to them both!

First independent year

Our first year as an independent organisation was successful, thanks to generous support from our regular sponsors, Balaam’s Music, Music Sales Group, G Signs and Design, and Suffolk Sinfonia, as well as the Bury St Edmunds branch of NADFAS. Our website is full of information and photos, and our logo and artwork have firmly established our identity.

Members Scheme

We are thrilled to have received strong support for our Members Scheme where, for an annual subscription of £5, interested supporters can become ‘Members of WSYM’ and be more closely involved with, and have a voice in, the running of the competition. Constitutionally we must hold an AGM and we welcome as many of our Members to attend as would like to do so. However, we recognise that many Members are content simply to support us through their £5 donation.

AGM procedures

The Constitution and procedures for nominating Members to the Executive Committee are on the website. Should you need clarification, please get in touch. Nominations from existing members for election to the committee need to be submitted in writing by 27 September. We very much hope that you will wish to join us. If you intend to come, please reply in writing either by post or email by Saturday 24 September. At that point attendees will be notified of the venue. If you have not already renewed you Membership for 2012, can I urge you to do so now! Last year’s membership numbered 73 which generated £365 for our funds. If you joined us at the Finalists’ Concert in July or subsequently, then you are already a paid-up Member for Competition year 2012, with a 2012 Membership card. You can renew by post or by internet banking (details here).
